He ran. He had been running for most of his life, it was the
only thing he knew how to do. His once happy home now burnt to the ground and
he was the only Thompson left; isolated and detached from the world. The woman smiled, the petrol smell still
burning in her nose, she got what she wanted and he was just a bonus, someone
she could mess with, someone to use to make her feel powerful. It was really
his fault for trusting someone he thought he loved, for being young and naïve. He
shouldn’t have told her what he was, what he became every full moon, what his
family became every full moon. How was he to know that she was a hunter? How
was he to know that she had killed werewolves before? How was he to know that
she would destroy his family? And now he was going to destroy her.
The summer of 2006 was just a week away for Tyler, who
couldn’t wait to spend some time with his girlfriend. He was tired of school,
of his friends constant nagging about him dating an older woman; he was sixteen
he could do what he wanted. Tyler knew that she was the one for him; she was
fierce and dangerous, and even stuck by him when he told her what he was. He
knew she was the one for him.
He was going to introduce her to his family before the fire;
he chuckles humourlessly at that thought. He was just a boy who lost everything
he ever cared about because of who and what he is. A werewolf is completely
harmless with its pack but a werewolf without a pack can turn feral and is
known to be a killer of the night. And now Tyler has no pack, no one he can
trust and only has one thing on his mind; revenge!
The smell of burning met Tyler’s nose as soon as he stepped
into the forest; he could already hear the screaming from where he stood, his
home at least a mile away. He ran, he ran as fast as he could, all he could
hear was his heartbeat pounding in his ears and the multiple screams of ‘help’
that encouraged him to run faster.
Revenge was the only thing on his mind as he clawed at the
forest floor, trusting his sense of smell to guide him. He knew she was there,
in the woods, he could smell her. His blood red eyes now locked onto his target
that had her back turned to him while playing with her bow and arrow. She
looked exactly the same, her coal black hair loosely tied into a ponytail. He
could tell that she was wearing that sly smirk that she always wore when she
either got her way or knew something that nobody else knew. She quickly loaded
her bow with an arrow and pulled back and in one quick motion the arrow whizzed
through the air and hit her target, a brown rabbit. Her smirk widened as she
realised that she was being watched by the red eyed creature.
Tyler reached the
screaming, tears running down both his cheeks. He tried to open the door but
already knew it was locked, he watched helplessly at the house. There was no
way in or out, he could already hear their heartbeats growing weak as he bashed
against the door, desperately trying to find a way in.
He growled, she laughed; he charged; she loaded her bow; he
jumped; she pulled her arm back…
Tyler shook, his whole world collapsed around him. The
officers trying to control him while he looked on at the numerous amount of
body bags laid out. His family gone, he was left alone in the world. Who would
do this? They were innocent, his family never spilt human blood. But then Tyler picked up a sickly sweet scent,
what was she doing here? She’d never been here before! Tyler’s face was filled
with dread as the realisation of what his girlfriend did hit him and it was all
his fault.
The
sound of an arrow whizzed through the air, through a scream. The scent of blood
everywhere, he had bitten her, torn through her skin. He laid there helplessly
as he could feel his life ebbing away. The arrow deep in his stomach but he
smiled, for the first time in years. He knew she would change, she would become
a werewolf but she was a hunter which meant she would either be killed by
someone like her or kill herself, not wanting to be like him. His eyes softy
shut and could feel himself wagging his tail as he heard the voices of his
family, calling him.
